Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 21, 2026
This policy covers the RYLI desktop application and the ryli.app website (together, "RYLI," "we," or "us"). It explains what information we collect, where it lives, and who else ever sees it. If you have questions, reach us anytime at hello@ryli.app.
The short version
RYLI is built to be local-first. Your show data — chat, bids, buyer history, sales — is read and stored entirely on your own computer. We don't run a server that collects it, store it in any database of ours, or sell it to anyone. The only information that leaves your computer is what's strictly needed to run your license/subscription and to check for app updates, described below.
What the RYLI app collects
Your show data stays on your PC. RYLI reads publicly visible information from the Whatnot browser tab you're already using to host your show — chat messages, bids, buyer usernames, sale amounts, viewer counts — and saves it to a file on your own computer so the app can show you leaderboards, celebrations, and Insights. This data is never uploaded to us. It's yours; if you delete it from your computer, it's gone. If you use RYLI without connecting Whatnot, RYLI reads no platform data at all — the overlay, your camera and Ryli’s voice run entirely from your own machine.
License and trial status. Your 10-day free trial is tracked entirely on your own computer — nothing is sent anywhere to run it. To activate and validate a Pro subscription, RYLI communicates with our payment processor, Polar, sending only what's needed to check whether a license key is valid. See Polar's own privacy policy for how they handle that.
App updates and the Stream Store. RYLI checks GitHub to see if a newer version is available, and to download optional Stream Store content (overlay effects, Stream Deck icon packs) if you choose to use them. These are standard file-download requests and don't include your show data or personal information.
Optional research feature (Pro). If you choose to connect your own Claude or OpenAI API key so Ryli can look up product or market information live on air, your questions are sent directly from your computer to that provider using your own key — not through any RYLI server. This is entirely optional and off by default.
Optional Google Drive backup. RYLI can back up your show data to a private, hidden folder inside your own Google Drive, so a lost or crashed computer doesn't take your history with it. This is entirely optional and off until you connect your Google account. If you turn it on, your data is sent directly from your computer to Google's servers using your own Google sign-in — RYLI has no server of its own in this path, and no ability to see, access, or share what's stored there. Only the specific hidden app folder Google creates for RYLI is used; RYLI never requests access to the rest of your Drive. You can disconnect this at any time from Settings, which stops any further backups (it doesn't delete what's already been backed up — you can remove that yourself from your Google Account's connected-apps settings, or Google Drive directly).
Anonymous usage ping. So we can tell whether anyone is actually using RYLI, the app sends one small, anonymous signal per day it's opened: a randomly generated ID, whether you're on the Free or Pro tier, and the app version number. That ID is generated on your computer and is never derived from or sent alongside your name, email, license key, or Whatnot account — it can't be traced back to you, only counted. No show data, chat, bids, viewer information, or buyer information is ever part of this. It's on by default; you can turn it off any time from Settings → About.
Approximate location. When that daily ping arrives, Cloudflare tells us the broad region the request came from — the country, and within the United States the state. We record that once, the first time we see a given install, so we can see roughly where RYLI is being used. We never store your IP address, and we never record a city, postcode, or any coordinate. Turning the usage ping off in Settings → About stops this too, because there is no separate location signal — it is simply part of that one request.
What we don't do. Beyond the anonymous ping described above, RYLI does not run any other background analytics or telemetry, does not track which features you use or how, does not track your location beyond the broad country and state described above, and does not access your microphone or webcam data beyond what's needed to run the features you've turned on, locally, in the moment. Nothing is sent to advertisers.
What the ryli.app website collects
The website sets no cookies, never creates or reads a visitor ID, and nothing on it follows you to other websites. Two things are counted, both in aggregate.
First, each page load sends a single anonymous signal to our own Cloudflare endpoint that increments a daily pageview total, so we can tell whether anyone is actually looking at the site. No ID, no cookie, and no IP address is stored for this, so those hits can't be told apart from each other or traced back to you. Alongside that daily total we count the broad region the visit came from — country, and state within the United States — for the same reason, and to the same limit: no IP, no city, no coordinates, and nothing that links one visit to another. Alongside those we count, in the same aggregate way, the site that referred you (the bare domain only — for example “google” — never the full link or anything you searched for), which page you opened, whether the visit came from a desktop or a phone, and whether the Download button was pressed. These are plain daily tallies with no identifier attached, kept so we can tell whether people are finding the site and whether the download is working.
Second, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see roughly how many separate people visit, which pages they land on, and which country they're broadly in. It is cookieless, does not fingerprint your device, does not follow you across other websites, and is never used to build an advertising profile or shared with advertisers. We use it to understand whether the site is reaching anyone — not to identify you.
If you submit an email address through a signup form on this site, that address is used only to contact you about RYLI (for example, a launch announcement) and is processed through our form provider, Formspree.
Third parties we work with
- Polar — handles subscription billing and license validation.
- jsDelivr — the public CDN that delivers Polar's checkout script used on this website; like any file your browser requests, it receives your IP address and browser type when the page loads.
- GitHub — hosts app updates and optional Stream Store content.
- Cloudflare — hosts this website and the anonymous usage-ping endpoint described above, and provides the cookieless Web Analytics described above.
- Anthropic / OpenAI — only if you personally connect your own API key for the optional research feature; your requests go directly to them using your own credentials.
- Google — only if you personally connect your Google account for the optional Drive backup feature; your data goes directly to your own Google Drive using your own sign-in, never through a RYLI server.
- Formspree — only if you submit an email through a form on this website.
We don't sell, rent, or share your information with anyone else, and we don't use any of these services to build advertising profiles.
Data security
Because your show data lives on your own computer rather than a server we control, its security depends significantly on your own computer's security — the same as any locally-installed application. We recommend normal precautions (keeping your OS and antivirus up to date, not sharing your license key).
Children's privacy
RYLI is not directed at children and isn't intended for use by anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
Your choices
Since your show history lives on your own computer, you're always in control of it — you can view, back up, or delete it directly from your files at any time. To stop a Pro subscription, cancel through Polar's customer portal, linked in your checkout receipt email — that's also where billing requests go. To remove a license key from an install, use Settings → About inside the app; that releases the activation but doesn't cancel billing.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use RYLI after a change means you accept the updated policy.
